Malwarebytes lets ChatGPT users scan links and messages for scams
1 day ago • ai-security
Malwarebytes announced on February 2, 2026 a new app integration with ChatGPT that brings its threat intelligence into conversations. Users enable the app via ChatGPT Settings > Apps, then ask “Malwarebytes, is this a scam?” and paste suspicious content such as texts, emails, direct messages, links, domains, or phone numbers. The app returns instant verdicts on phishing indicators, social‑engineering tactics, and recommended actions.
The integration uses Malwarebytes' continuously updated database that protects millions of devices worldwide. For links and domains it runs reputation scans, checks indicators of compromise (IOCs), follows redirects, and retrieves WHOIS data to flag suspicious or newly registered sites. For phone numbers it provides geo‑context warnings and spam checks. Emails and texts receive a point‑by‑point risk breakdown written without technical jargon. ZDNET independently tested the app and confirmed accurate detection of job scams and phishing emails.
The app is available free to ChatGPT Free, Plus, Team, and Enterprise users where apps are supported and requires no Malwarebytes account. Users can also report suspicious content to help enrich the threat database.
Why It Matters
- SOC analysts can paste IOCs (suspicious URLs or phone numbers) into ChatGPT for Malwarebytes risk scores, cutting triage time by minutes per alert.
- IT helpdesk teams can verify customer‑reported emails and texts in real time inside ChatGPT, reducing tool switching and speeding resolution.
- Small business owners get enterprise‑grade scam detection during routine ChatGPT use, enabling faster, safer decisions on links and messages.
- Security trainers can demo live threat assessments in workshops using the free ChatGPT app to give hands‑on examples of phishing and social‑engineering detection.
